Why AP World History: Modern ve Grup Kursu?

Why is AP Dünya Tarihi important?

Whether you choose 1:1 tutoring or our small-group AP courses, our experienced AP instructors map the path to a 5. Targeted AP Dünya Tarihi preparation built around your starting point and your target score.

AP World History: Modern surveys global history from 1200 CE to the present. The course foregrounds connections — trade, migration, technology, conflict — between civilisations rather than the history of any one nation, which makes it particularly valuable for students interested in international relations, global studies or comparative history.

TestPrep Europe's AP tutoring program is fully personalised: every lesson focuses on your specific weak topics, FRQ/essay technique, and exam-day strategy. Our instructors track the College Board's current curriculum and scoring rubrics closely so the work you do with us mirrors what is rewarded on the actual exam. Group cohorts (max 6 students) keep weekly accountability high while preserving individual attention.

Curriculum

AP Dünya Tarihi curriculum coverage

Unit-by-unit summary of the topics we cover, mapped to the College Board's official Course and Exam Description (CED). In our 1:1 lessons each unit is paced and weighted to the individual student.

The Mongol Empire and Silk Road / Indian Ocean networks
Maritime exploration and the Columbian Exchange
Comparative analysis of Ottoman, Mughal, Ming/Qing and European empires
Strategy

AP Dünya Tarihi study strategies

Strategies our AP instructors recommend for top-scoring AP Dünya Tarihi preparation. We integrate these techniques directly into 1:1 sessions and small-group practice rounds.

Comparative analysis is the spine of the course — learn every topic through at least two regions.

On the DBQ, group documents thematically and address each group in its own paragraph.

For continuity-and-change-over-time prompts, identify both what changes and what stays the same.

Map literacy matters — be able to draw trade routes, empire boundaries and migration paths from memory.

Overview

About AP Dünya Tarihi

AP World History: Modern surveys global history from 1200 to the present through the lens of cross-regional interaction. Rather than the story of any single civilisation, the course emphasises trade, migration, cultural diffusion, technology transfer and conflict between regions. Students compare the Mongol conquests with European exploration, industrialisation in Britain with industrialisation in Japan, decolonisation in India with decolonisation in Algeria. The exam tests historical thinking skills (causation, comparison, continuity and change, contextualisation) over rote memorisation. Our programme pairs chronological summaries with thematic comparison tables and weekly DBQ and LEQ practice.

1:1 AP tutoring — personalised support

Our 1:1 AP tutoring is built entirely around the student's current knowledge level and target score. Each session focuses on your specific weak topics, drills exam-format practice questions, and teaches FRQ / essay technique with the College Board's scoring rubric in front of us. Our instructors stay current with every CED revision so the work you put in mirrors what gets rewarded in May.

Small-group AP courses — structured cohorts

Our small-group AP courses (max 6 students) give you a structured weekly programme alongside students chasing the same target. The syllabus tracks the College Board CED unit-by-unit and includes weekly quizzes plus full-length mock exams to benchmark progress. Both online cohorts and on-campus options are available across our European hubs.

What is AP World History tutoring?

AP World History: Modern (APWH) tutoring at TestPrep Europe drills the same four FRQ types as APUSH — DBQ, LEQ, SAQ, and stimulus MCQs — but across global history from c. 1200 to the present. The exam rewards comparison, causation, and continuity-and-change reasoning across regions, supported by specific evidence.

  • Nine units, c. 1200 CE to present, taught region-by-region with cross-regional comparison
  • DBQ, LEQ, SAQ and stimulus MCQs drilled as separate genres
  • HIPP document sourcing built into every DBQ session
  • Comparison and continuity-and-change reasoning treated as core skills

Common AP World History mistakes

HataEurocentric narrative on prompts that ask for global comparison.

DüzeltmeAlways provide evidence from at least two regions on comparison prompts; one-region answers cap the score on the rubric's evidence row.

HataVague global claims ('trade increased everywhere').

DüzeltmeSpecify region, century and named example — Indian Ocean trade c. 1300, Trans-Saharan c. 1400, etc.

HataIgnoring the time band of the prompt.

DüzeltmeUnderline the period in the prompt before writing; evidence outside the band earns no credit even if accurate.

HataWeak contextualisation that names a process without explaining it.

DüzeltmeContextualisation must explain what was happening before / around the prompt's time, not just label it.

HataTreating the LEQ as a list of causes.

DüzeltmeCausation prompts need a hierarchy of causes (most → least important) with evidence for the ranking, not a list.

HataRunning out of time on SAQs.

DüzeltmeSAQs are short for a reason — three sentences per part, no introduction. We drill SAQ pacing separately from essay pacing.

How TestPrep Europe teaches AP World History

Region-by-region with cross-regional comparison

Each unit is taught region-by-region, then closed with cross-regional comparison drills. This mirrors what the LEQ and DBQ rubrics actually reward.

Time-band discipline

Every essay drill starts with the prompt's time band underlined. Evidence outside the band is the most common silent score-killer.

Process language built explicitly

Phrases like 'syncretism', 'state consolidation', 'commercialisation' are taught as named processes with examples, so students stop relying on vague global generalisations.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

Is APWH harder than APUSH?

APWH is broader, APUSH is deeper. Students stronger at comparison and global thinking usually find APWH more natural; students stronger at narrow narrative often prefer APUSH.

Do I need to know history before 1200 CE?

Not for the exam. The current APWH: Modern starts c. 1200 CE; earlier history is no longer assessed. Students still benefit from a basic background but it's not on the rubric.

How specific does evidence need to be?

Named events, named figures, named treaties, with century-level dating. 'In the Tang dynasty' is enough; '在 9 世纪' is unnecessary. Specificity, not exact dates, is what the rubric rewards.

Do international students have an edge?

Often yes — students from non-US curricula are usually more comfortable with cross-regional comparison than US-curriculum students who have seen US history in much more detail than world history.
