Why is AP Fizik 2 important?
Whether you choose 1:1 tutoring or our small-group AP courses, our experienced AP instructors map the path to a 5. Targeted AP Fizik 2 preparation built around your starting point and your target score.
AP Physics 2 is the algebra-based continuation of AP Physics 1 and covers the topics most useful to pre-medical, biomedical-engineering and environmental-science applicants: fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, geometric and wave optics, and an introduction to modern physics. A strong score signals to admissions committees that a student can handle two consecutive years of college-level physics.
TestPrep Europe's AP tutoring program is fully personalised: every lesson focuses on your specific weak topics, FRQ/essay technique, and exam-day strategy. Our instructors track the College Board's current curriculum and scoring rubrics closely so the work you do with us mirrors what is rewarded on the actual exam. Group cohorts (max 6 students) keep weekly accountability high while preserving individual attention.
AP Fizik 2 exam structure
Review the section-by-section breakdown of the AP Fizik 2 exam, administered worldwide by the College Board every May. Each section is drilled separately in our 1:1 and small-group programs so you build strategy for the parts of the test that matter most to your score.
Section I: Multiple Choice
50%42 questions in 1 hour 25 minutes. Updated effective with the May 2027 exam. Calculators permitted.
Section II: Free Response
50%4 questions in 1 hour 35 minutes covering mathematical routines, translation between representations, experimental design and analysis, and qualitative/quantitative translation.
Exam delivery
Hybrid digitalMultiple choice is answered in Bluebook; free-response answers are handwritten.
AP Fizik 2 curriculum coverage
Unit-by-unit summary of the topics we cover, mapped to the College Board's official Course and Exam Description (CED). In our 1:1 lessons each unit is paced and weighted to the individual student.
AP Fizik 2 study strategies
Strategies our AP instructors recommend for top-scoring AP Fizik 2 preparation. We integrate these techniques directly into 1:1 sessions and small-group practice rounds.
Tie the laws of thermodynamics to everyday devices (refrigerators, heat engines) so the abstractions become concrete.
Approach circuit problems systematically: simplify the network first, then apply Kirchhoff's laws.
Always draw ray diagrams on optics questions — the picture is half the answer.
Modern physics is more conceptual than computational; understand photon energy, wave–particle duality and quantised energy levels.
About AP Fizik 2
AP Physics 2 picks up the topics AP Physics 1 leaves behind. Students start with thermodynamics — heat, temperature, entropy and the gas laws — then move to fluid mechanics (Bernoulli, Pascal, Archimedes), electrostatics, magnetism, optics and a closing unit on modern physics. Although fewer students take it than Physics 1, AP Physics 2 carries real value for biomedical, environmental and architecture applicants, all of whom need solid intuition about fields, fluids and waves. Our programme reinforces the AP Physics 1 mechanics base where needed and then drills the new content systematically, with circuit-analysis and optics workshops that mirror the FRQ scoring rubric.
1:1 AP tutoring — personalised support
Our 1:1 AP tutoring is built entirely around the student's current knowledge level and target score. Each session focuses on your specific weak topics, drills exam-format practice questions, and teaches FRQ / essay technique with the College Board's scoring rubric in front of us. Our instructors stay current with every CED revision so the work you put in mirrors what gets rewarded in May.
Small-group AP courses — structured cohorts
Our small-group AP courses (max 6 students) give you a structured weekly programme alongside students chasing the same target. The syllabus tracks the College Board CED unit-by-unit and includes weekly quizzes plus full-length mock exams to benchmark progress. All cohorts are delivered live online, so students can join from anywhere in Europe.
What is AP Physics 2 tutoring?
AP Physics 2 tutoring at TestPrep Europe covers fluids, thermodynamics, electric force and circuits, magnetism, optics and modern physics in the MCQ + FRQ format used on the May exam. Physics 2 is algebra-based but heavily conceptual — the FRQ rubric rewards diagrams, sign conventions and proportional reasoning more than algebraic gymnastics.
- Seven content units, fluids through modern physics
- Sign conventions and free-body / circuit diagrams drilled into reflex
- Proportional reasoning and 'what happens if you double …' practised explicitly
- Released FRQs scored against the official rubric
Common AP Physics 2 mistakes
HataMixing up gauge pressure and absolute pressure in fluids problems.
DüzeltmeDecide which the question wants before substituting numbers; gauge = absolute − atmospheric.
HataConfusing series and parallel rules in mixed circuits.
DüzeltmeRe-draw the circuit as nested blocks and reduce step by step rather than trying to read the original diagram.
HataWrong sign on charges and currents in magnetic-force problems.
DüzeltmeUse the right-hand rule explicitly each time; sketch the vectors with labels rather than visualising in your head.
HataTreating optics ray diagrams as decoration.
DüzeltmeDraw the principal rays first, then read object/image distances and orientation from the diagram — the rubric awards diagram points.
HataSloppy units in thermodynamics ('joules' for power).
DüzeltmeCarry units through every calculation; W vs J vs W·s distinguishes correct from rubric-failing answers.
HataWeak experimental explanations on lab FRQs.
DüzeltmeAlways state the variables, the control, and how the data would falsify the hypothesis — exactly the language the rubric expects.

How TestPrep Europe teaches AP Physics 2
Diagrams before equations
Free-body, ray, and circuit diagrams are drawn before any equation is written — the rubric awards points for the diagram, and the diagram fixes most sign errors before they happen.
Proportional reasoning as a separate skill
AP Physics 2 FRQs constantly ask 'what happens if X doubles?'. We drill these as ratios rather than by re-running the calculation, so students answer them in seconds.
Lab FRQs as a structured genre
Experimental-design FRQs follow a fixed template: variables, control, procedure, expected data, falsification. Students rehearse the template rather than improvising under time pressure.

Is Physics 2 algebra-based?
Yes — AP Physics 1 and 2 are both algebra-based; calculus is reserved for the Physics C exams. The conceptual depth is high, but the maths stays at Algebra II / Pre-Calc level.
Do I need to take Physics 1 first?
Officially no, but Physics 2 assumes Physics 1 mechanics. Students who skip Physics 1 usually struggle with energy methods on circuits and on thermodynamics.
How important are the lab questions?
Lab FRQs are explicitly weighted on the rubric; students who only practise content questions lose easy points. We treat them as a structured template, not as 'extra'.
How many hours of tutoring are typical?
Students with a Physics 1 base usually book 35–55 hours; students new to physics or aiming to move multiple score bands often book more. We start with a free diagnostic.
