The United Kingdom illustrates a stable parliamentary democracy; China, an authoritarian one-party state; Iran, a theocratic republic; Russia, a semi-authoritarian system; Mexico, a transitional democracy; and Nigeria, a developing democracy. Our programme builds detailed profiles of each country, comparison matrices across the major themes (regime type, institutions, civil society, political economy) and weekly current-events analysis to keep the country studies up to date.

Students rehearse a fixed structure for the argument essay: thesis, two claim points with evidence, and one engagement with an alternative perspective. The perspective point is the most commonly missed.

Why these six countries specifically?
The College Board chose them to span regime types and regions: a Westminster democracy (UK), a presidential democracy (Mexico), a federal hybrid regime (Russia), a federal democracy with weak rule of law (Nigeria), a theocracy (Iran), and a one-party state (China).
Is the exam memorisation-heavy?
Less than students assume. Memorising six country profiles is not the goal; applying concepts using country examples is. We teach by concept first.
Do international students have an edge?
Often yes — students from outside the US are usually more comfortable comparing political systems. The main work is learning the AP rubric and FRQ writing style.
How many tutoring hours are typical?
