How is the A–E grade estimated?
The IB sets the Extended Essay's grade boundaries again every session; there is no fixed table. So the estimate follows the grade descriptors the IB asks schools to use for predicted grades. The IB publishes your final grade at the end of the session.

Source skills as a separate subject
OPVL and source comparison are taught as a distinct skill set, not as a Paper-1-only afterthought.
Comparative essay habit
Paper 2 marks reward structured cross-region or cross-event comparison. We teach the comparative habit from week 1.
Historical Investigation with academic integrity
Section 1 (sources), Section 2 (investigation) and Section 3 (reflection) are scaffolded but the investigation remains the student's own work.
Advice
IB History: common mistakes and study tips
MistakePaper 1 source questions answered out of order.
FixPaper 1 has a fixed question structure (origin/purpose/value/limitation, comparison, integrated response). Skipping the structure forfeits easy marks.
MistakePaper 2 essays that describe rather than argue.
FixPaper 2 expects sustained argument with comparative evidence across regions or events. Description alone caps the response.
MistakeHL Paper 3 essays without depth.
FixPaper 3 specifically rewards in-depth knowledge. Surface-level Paper-2-style answers under-score.
MistakeHistorical Investigation without method reflection.
FixSection 3 (reflection on method) is a distinct rubric component. Skipping it is a predictable, costly loss.
MistakeHistoriography ignored at HL.
