The History IA (Historical Investigation) is an independent piece of historical research of up to 2200 words.

IB History helps students understand the past in order to make sense of the present and the future, and develops critical thinking and academic writing. It is an excellent foundation for students aiming at law, international relations, journalism or political science.

Source skills as a separate subject
OPVL and source comparison are taught as a distinct skill set, not as a Paper-1-only afterthought.
Comparative essay habit
Paper 2 marks reward structured cross-region or cross-event comparison. We teach the comparative habit from week 1.
Historical Investigation with academic integrity
Section 1 (sources), Section 2 (investigation) and Section 3 (reflection) are scaffolded but the investigation remains the student's own work.

How important is HL Paper 3?
Very. Paper 3 carries a large share of HL marks and rewards genuine depth in the chosen regional option. It cannot be drilled in the final term.
Is historiography expected at SL?
Less than at HL but still rewarded. Top SL bands engage with historians' interpretations even when not strictly required.
What's a strong IA question?
A focused, contestable question with accessible primary or secondary sources. We help scope IA questions during the diagnostic phase of tutoring.
How many tutoring hours are typical?
