IB Visual Arts is ideal for students who want to explore their creativity and develop their artistic vision. It builds a strong portfolio foundation for students aiming at fine arts, graphic design, architecture, fashion or media arts.
Our lessons run technical skills, conceptual development and critical analysis side by side, with one-to-one mentoring across the Process Portfolio, Comparative Study and Exhibition.
What is IB Visual Arts tutoring?
IB Visual Arts tutoring at TestPrep Europe supports the three assessment components: the Comparative Study, the Process Portfolio and the Exhibition. Tutoring is mentor-style — focused on conceptual development, technical decisions, art-historical research and rubric-aligned write-up — under academic-integrity guidance. We do not produce artwork on the student's behalf.
- Comparative Study scaffolded across artworks, artists and contexts
- Process Portfolio shaped to evidence experimentation across media
- Exhibition curatorial rationale tightened to rubric language
- Academic integrity central: all artwork remains the student's own
Common IB Visual Arts mistakes
HataComparative Study without explicit comparison.
DüzeltmeThe Comparative Study is comparative by definition. Three single-artwork analyses are not enough — comparison must be sustained.
HataProcess Portfolio that documents finished work, not process.
DüzeltmeThe PP rewards experimentation, dead-ends and reflection. A clean portfolio of polished pieces under-scores.
HataExhibition with weak curatorial rationale.
DüzeltmeThe curatorial rationale is part of the rubric. A short paragraph rarely scores well.
HataCultural sources mentioned but not contextualised.
DüzeltmeReferences to non-Western art must avoid surface use; sustained context is required for top bands.
HataCitation gaps in Comparative Study.
DüzeltmeAll sources must be cited consistently. Missing citations are a predictable academic-integrity issue.

How TestPrep Europe teaches IB Visual Arts
Mentor model
Sessions focus on critique, decision-making and rubric translation. We do not produce artwork on the student's behalf — final artwork remains the student's own work.
Rubric-aligned reflection
We translate IB rubric language into actionable feedback so students can self-edit between sessions.
Academic integrity in CS and PP
Citations, source acknowledgement and authorship are reinforced throughout the two-year cycle.
Sıkça sorulan sorular
Do I need to be 'good at art' to start?
Strong observational drawing helps but is not required. The IB rubric rewards conceptual development, experimentation and reflection across media — many strong scores come from non-traditional practices.
How is HL different from SL?
HL has more pieces in the Exhibition, a longer Comparative Study (with a reflection component) and more PP screens. The conceptual scope is broader at HL.
Will TestPrep Europe make any of my artwork?
No. We mentor and critique. Final artwork remains entirely the student's own work, in line with IB academic-integrity rules.
How many tutoring hours are typical?
Visual Arts students typically book 40–70 hours across two years depending on prior practice and ambition. We start with a free diagnostic.
