Why us?

Why choose IB Physics tutoring?

IB Physics asks students to combine mathematical modelling, experimental design and analytical thinking. At HL in particular, advanced topics such as quantum physics, wave–particle duality and astrophysics can be challenging without targeted support.

Mathematics–Physics integration

IB Physics questions test conceptual understanding and graph interpretation, not just formula recall. Our tutors teach every topic alongside its mathematical foundations.

Experimental skills and IA

Comprehensive guidance on experimental design, data analysis, uncertainty calculations and error evaluation for the Internal Assessment.

Past-paper strategy

We work through 10+ years of past papers so students master the question types and the expectations of the mark scheme.

Data Booklet fluency

Strategies for using the Data Booklet effectively in the exam and choosing the right formula under time pressure.

Curriculum

IB Physics curriculum and topics

The IB Physics syllabus (first assessment 2025) is organised around five themes (A–E), spanning classical mechanics through to modern physics. SL and HL students share core themes; HL students study additional advanced material within each theme.

SLStandard Level topics

A. Space, Time and Motion (mechanics, circular motion, gravitation)
B. The Particulate Nature of Matter (thermal, atomic, nuclear physics)
C. Wave Behaviour (waves, reflection, refraction, interference)
D. Fields (electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction)
E. Nuclear and Quantum Physics (radioactivity, particle physics)

IA support

IB Physics Scientific Investigation (IA) support

Under the new IB Physics syllabus (first assessment 2025), the Internal Assessment is the 'Scientific Investigation' — an independent experimental study worth 20% of the final grade, marked across four criteria: Research Design, Data Analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation.

Where we support you through the IA

  • 1Research Design: research question, variables, methodology
  • 2Data Analysis: raw data collection, processing, uncertainty calculations
  • 3Conclusion: comparison with established scientific literature
  • 4Evaluation: error sources and improvement suggestions
  • 5Individual report within a 3,000-word limit

IB Physics is one of the foundational sciences for understanding the universe. The course builds scientific method, mathematical modelling and critical-thinking skills, and is a key subject for students aiming at engineering, medicine and the natural sciences at university.

At TestPrep Europe we run personalised IB Physics programmes built around each student's individual needs. Experienced IB tutors bridge concepts and mathematics for durable understanding, while past-paper practice, IA support and exam strategies prepare students to target a 7 — and to enjoy physics along the way.

Hızlı cevap

What is IB Physics tutoring?

IB Physics tutoring at TestPrep Europe covers Standard and Higher Level on the current IB syllabus, with full support for the Internal Assessment and the new Group 4 Project guidance. The IB Physics exam balances conceptual reasoning, lab-style data interpretation and quantitative problem solving — and our programme drills all three.

  • Full coverage of all themes, including HL extensions
  • Paper 1 (multiple choice) and Paper 2 (extended response) drilled separately
  • IA experimental design coached end-to-end with academic-integrity guidance
  • Released past-paper questions scored against the official IB markscheme

Common IB Physics mistakes

HataReporting numerical answers without significant figures or units.

DüzeltmeIB markschemes deduct for missing units or wrong sig figs. Always write the unit and the appropriate number of sig figs.

HataConfusing average and instantaneous quantities on motion graphs.

DüzeltmeAverage velocity is total displacement / total time; instantaneous velocity is the slope at a point. Two different objects.

HataTreating the IA as a simple lab report.

DüzeltmeThe IA is graded on Personal Engagement, Exploration, Analysis, Evaluation and Communication. Each is its own rubric strand and needs explicit attention.

HataSkipping the uncertainty propagation step.

DüzeltmeIA and exam questions both expect propagated uncertainties. Use either the partial-derivative or the percentage-error rule consistently.

HataOn extended-response questions, jumping to algebra without a diagram.

DüzeltmeDraw the situation first — free-body diagram, ray diagram or circuit diagram. Examiners look for it.

How TestPrep Europe teaches IB Physics

Diagram-first reflex

Every mechanics, optics, circuits or fields question starts with a labelled diagram. Skipping this is the single biggest source of dropped marks across the cohort.

IA scaffolding with academic integrity

We coach the experimental design, uncertainty propagation, analysis and reflection. We do not generate data or write the report — final submitted work must be the student's own.

Markscheme-aware writing

Extended-response questions are practised against released markschemes so students learn what counts as 'definition', 'explanation' and 'analysis' in IB language.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

Should I take Physics at SL or HL?

HL Physics is required or strongly preferred for most physics, engineering and astronomy degrees. SL Physics is acceptable for many applied-science and quantitative-social-science applications. Check the target university's stated requirement.

How long is the Internal Assessment?

The IA report is around 6–12 pages depending on the experiment. The grade is based on the rubric strands, not on length — over-long reports rarely score better.

Can my IA topic be linked to a school project or competition?

Yes, provided the IA write-up is original and the data analysed in the IA is collected for the IA. Re-using a previous report verbatim would be an academic-integrity breach.

Is the new IB Physics syllabus very different from the old one?

The current IB Physics syllabus reorganises content into themes (A–E) and adds an HL paper structure aligned with conceptual understanding. Past-paper questions remain useful but should be matched to current themes carefully.
