IB English A: Language and Literature explores the relationship between language and literature while developing critical reading and writing skills. It is a key Group 1 subject for students targeting literature, journalism, law, communication or the social sciences.

HataPaper 1 essay that ignores the guiding question.
DüzeltmeThe guiding question is a prompt, not a constraint, but ignoring it is the single most common reason strong analyses underscore.
HataPaper 2 essay that treats the two texts in sequence.

Should I take Language and Literature or Literature?
Language and Literature suits students interested in non-literary texts (advertising, speeches, journalism); Literature suits students who want sustained close-reading of poetry, prose and drama. We help students choose during the diagnostic.
Is HL English A realistic for non-native speakers?
Possible, but English B is often the better fit. We assess this against the IB language A admission criteria during the diagnostic.
How are quotations marked?
Quotations are not the goal — the analysis around them is. A short, well-analysed quote outscores a long, unexamined one.
How many tutoring hours are typical?
HL students typically book 60–90 hours across two years; SL students less. We start with a free diagnostic.
