IB English B is a comprehensive programme designed to bring second-language English learners to academic-level proficiency. Across five themes, students build reading, writing and oral communication skills.
Our lessons grow students' fluency, vocabulary and cultural awareness — strengthening both exam performance and everyday academic English.
What is IB English B tutoring?
IB English B tutoring is for students learning English as an additional language. It covers the five prescribed themes — Identities, Experiences, Human ingenuity, Social organization, Sharing the planet — and the receptive (Paper 1: reading), productive (Paper 2: writing) and interactive (Individual Oral) skills. HL adds two literary works which appear directly in the Individual Oral.

Common IB English B mistakes
HataPaper 2 writing in the wrong text type.
DüzeltmeEach prompt specifies the text type (blog, speech, formal letter, etc.). Conventions of that text type are a band descriptor; getting them wrong caps the score.
HataHL Individual Oral that ignores the literary work.
DüzeltmeHL Oral is built around an extract from a literary work studied. SL framing won't pass the rubric.

Text-type as a syllabus item
Blog, speech, formal letter, brochure, report — we teach the conventions of each as separate sub-skills, because Paper 2 marks them explicitly.
Receptive skills with source grounding
Paper 1 rewards matching answers to the source. We practise locate-then-paraphrase rather than free recall.
HL literary works without anxiety
Two literary works are short and chosen for accessibility. We treat them as IO scaffolding, not as English-A-level literary criticism.

Should I take HL or SL English B?
HL adds two literary works and a more demanding IO format. Students aiming for a 6 or 7 in HL usually need a strong B2/early C1 baseline; otherwise SL is the safer fit.
How are HL and SL different?
HL has longer Paper 1 texts, more depth in Paper 2, and the literary-work IO. SL uses a visual stimulus IO and shorter receptive texts.
What's the right level to start tutoring?
Strong B1 / early B2 is workable for SL; mid-B2 is realistic for HL. We confirm with a free diagnostic.
How many tutoring hours are typical?
