A private group is for 3 or more friends who sign up together (the group programme is 30 hours per subject); there are no published start dates, and we agree the start date and lesson times with you.

IGCSE ESL topics
1Reading
- Skimming for gist, scanning for detail, multiple-matching, note-making and multiple choice; the summary task was removed in 2024.
2Writing
- Form-aware tasks: emails, articles, reports, reviews; control of register and audience.
3Listening
- Note completion, multiple choice, matching speakers, gist and detail across accents.
- All five listening exercises are multiple-choice or matching; distractors, not spelling, are the main trap.
4Speaking
- About 10–15 minutes: warm-up, interview, a short talk from a card (1 minute to prepare, no notes) and a discussion.
5Syllabus code (0510 vs 0511)
- Tiers were removed in 2024. The choice is now the code: 0510 / 0993 report Speaking separately, 0511 / 0991 count it towards the grade.
Topic groups as we teach them; your exam board's syllabus may name and order them differently.

Reading answers must match the source. We drill locate-and-paraphrase rather than free recall.
Text-type conventions
Email, article and report are drilled as separate sub-skills because rubrics test their conventions explicitly.
Speaking with structure
Speaking is coached around topic-card structures so students don't freeze under examiner pressure.

IGCSE ESL: common mistakes and study tips
MistakeReading answers paraphrased without source grounding.
FixMark schemes match answers to the source. Heavy paraphrase often misses the wording the rubric expects.
MistakeWriting in the wrong text type.
FixEach prompt specifies a text type (email, article, report). Conventions of that type are part of the rubric.
MistakeWriting tasks that ignore the 120–160 word guide or miss prompts.
FixBoth writing tasks mark content (covering every prompt) and language separately; missing a prompt caps the content mark.
MistakeListening answers chosen on a single keyword.
