How lessons work

  • Annotation as habit

    Set texts are annotated systematically — theme, character, motif, technique — so essay material is ready by Year 11 spring.

  • Argument before evidence

    Every paragraph leads with a thesis sub-claim, then quotes, then analysis. Quote-led paragraphs lose argument.

  • Board-specific AO discipline

    Both boards mark against four Assessment Objectives but define them differently: Edexcel assesses comparison under AO3 and context under AO4, while Cambridge's AO4 is personal response. We teach the rubric the student's board actually uses.

    FixTop bands argue a thesis with quotations and analysis. Plot summary caps the response.

    FixEach quotation must be unpacked at the level of word choice or technique.

    FixForm, rhyme, line breaks and metre are explicitly examined alongside content.
