What is IGCSE Physics tutoring?
IGCSE Physics tutoring at TestPrep Europe covers mechanics, thermal, waves, electricity & magnetism, atomic and space physics across Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel, AQA and OCR International specifications. Structure may vary by board and syllabus code — we tutor to the student's actual exam.
- Full coverage of all topics with diagrams-first method
- Practical / Alternative-to-Practical paper strategies practised apart
- Past papers from the student's actual board
- Quantitative and qualitative questions drilled separately
IGCSE Physics syllabus map
Forces and motion
Kinematics, Newton's laws, momentum, moments and equilibrium.
Sınavda yeri: Foundation for everything else; weak free-body diagrams are the single biggest cause of lost marks.
Energy, work and power
Energy stores and transfers, efficiency, KE and GPE, power calculations.
Thermal physics
Particle model, specific heat capacity, latent heat, gas laws (Extended).
Waves and optics
Wave equation, sound, EM spectrum, refraction, lenses and total internal reflection.
Electricity and magnetism
Circuits, V = IR, series vs parallel, electromagnetic induction, transformers.
Atomic and nuclear physics
Atomic model, isotopes, half-life, fission and fusion, radiation safety.
Space physics (Edexcel only)
Solar System, life cycle of stars, red shift; Cambridge candidates skip this strand.
How IGCSE Physics is assessed
| Sınav bileşeni | Odak | Not |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple-choice paper | Concept recognition across the full specification, including definitions and units. | |
| Theory paper | Structured calculation and explanation questions; reasoning marks usually outweigh final-answer marks. | |
| Practical / Alternative to Practical | Apparatus, variables, sources of error, graph analysis and conclusion writing. | Cambridge International (0625 / 0972) and Pearson Edexcel (4PH1) handle the practical component differently; structure may vary by board and syllabus code. |
Common IGCSE Physics mistakes
HataMixing up speed, velocity and acceleration on motion graphs.
DüzeltmeSpeed is scalar; velocity is vector; acceleration is the slope of a v–t graph. Annotate the axes before reading the graph.
HataIgnoring units or sig figs on calculation answers.
DüzeltmeMost markschemes deduct for missing units. Write the unit on every numerical line.
HataConfusing series and parallel circuit rules.
DüzeltmeSeries: same current, voltages add. Parallel: same voltage, currents add. Memorise and verify with a worked example before the exam.
HataNot labelling ray diagrams for lenses and mirrors.
DüzeltmeMark the principal axis, focal points, object and image with arrowheads. Examiners look for these labels.
HataSkipping the explanation half of 'describe and explain' questions.
Düzeltme'Describe' = state what; 'explain' = state why. Both halves carry marks; missing one halves the question.

How TestPrep Europe teaches IGCSE Physics
Diagram-first reflex
Mechanics, optics and circuits questions always start with a labelled diagram before any calculation. The diagram itself is often worth method marks.
Practical paper handling
Whether the student sits the practical or the alternative-to-practical paper, we drill the specific skills the markscheme rewards — sources of error, valid conclusions, graph drawing.
Board-specific past papers
We use past papers from the student's actual specification so the question style and command-word usage match the May/June paper exactly.
Sıkça sorulan sorular
Which IGCSE Physics specification do you tutor?
We tutor to whichever specification the student is enrolled in — Cambridge International (0625 / 0972), Pearson Edexcel (4PH1), AQA International, OCR and others. Always tell us the board and syllabus code.
Practical paper or alternative-to-practical?
Most students sit the alternative-to-practical paper unless their school runs full lab sessions. Both papers test the same skills (planning, recording, analysing) but the format differs — we drill whichever the student will sit.
Is IGCSE Physics enough for A-Level Physics?
Most schools require an A or A* (or 7+) in IGCSE Physics — plus a strong IGCSE Maths grade — for A-Level Physics entry. Confirm with the school.
How is the new Cambridge specification different from the old one?
The most recent Cambridge specification (0972 alongside 0625) updates command words and assessment objectives; content overlaps strongly. We use past papers from the active specification only.
