Why A-Level Mathematics matters
1:1 tutoring and small-group A-Level cohorts mapped to your target grade — designed for students applying to UK and European universities.
A-Level Mathematics is one of the most-taken A-Levels in the UK and a near-universal asset for STEM, finance and quantitative social-science applications. The course is split between Pure Mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, calculus), Statistics and Mechanics. Top UK universities — Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial — expect A* for engineering and mathematics applicants.
TestPrep Europe's A-Level tutoring is fully personalised: every lesson focuses on your specific weak topics, drills past papers from your exam board, and walks through mark schemes so you understand exactly how marks are awarded. Our small-group cohorts (max 6 students) give you weekly accountability alongside students chasing the same grade. Whichever format you choose, our experienced A-Level instructors build a strategic plan aimed at A*.
A-Level Mathematics exam structure
Exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE
Review the paper-by-paper breakdown of the A-Level Mathematics exam. Our 1:1 tutoring is tailored to the exam board your school follows (Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE), so your past-paper practice and mark-scheme drills line up exactly with the spec you're sitting.
Paper 1: Pure Mathematics 1
33.3%2 hours. Algebra, functions, coordinate geometry, sequences, trigonometry, logarithms, calculus.
Paper 2: Pure Mathematics 2
33.3%2 hours. Advanced differentiation/integration, vectors, differential equations, numerical methods.
Paper 3: Statistics and Mechanics
33.3%2 hours. Statistics: data presentation, probability, normal distribution, hypothesis testing. Mechanics: kinematics, forces, moments.
A-Level Mathematics curriculum coverage
Unit-by-unit summary of the topics we cover, mapped to the Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE specifications. Each unit in 1:1 lessons is paced and weighted to the individual student.
A-Level Mathematics study strategies
Strategies our A-Level instructors recommend for top-grade A-Level Mathematics preparation. We integrate these techniques directly into 1:1 sessions and small-group practice rounds.
Always do past-paper questions across multiple boards once you've finished a topic. Edexcel, AQA and CIE phrase questions differently — exposure to all three sharpens technique.
Build a conceptual link between differentiation and integration; many cross-topic questions exploit this connection.
Master your calculator without becoming dependent on it; calculator-free practice exposes weaknesses in algebraic manipulation.
For the Statistics section, work with real datasets rather than textbook problems to internalise hypothesis-testing intuition.
About A-Level Mathematics
A-Level Mathematics combines abstract reasoning with applied modelling. The Pure strands move from algebra and trigonometry through to differential and integral calculus; Statistics develops data analysis and statistical inference; Mechanics models physical systems mathematically. A-Level Maths is required or strongly preferred for nearly every UK engineering, natural sciences, economics and computer science programme. Our programme aligns to each student's specific exam board with past-paper drills, exam-technique workshops and a relentless focus on the algebraic fluency that distinguishes A* candidates from A candidates.
1:1 A-Level tutoring — personalised support
Our 1:1 A-Level tutoring is built entirely around the student's current grade, target grade, and the exam board they're sitting. Each session focuses on your specific weak topics, drills Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE past-paper questions, and walks through mark schemes so you understand exactly what's being assessed. Our instructors stay current with every spec revision so the work you put in mirrors what gets rewarded in the summer series.
Small-group A-Level courses — structured cohorts
Our small-group A-Level courses (max 6 students) give you a structured weekly programme alongside students chasing the same grade. The syllabus tracks the Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE specification unit-by-unit and includes weekly quizzes plus full-length mock exams to benchmark progress. All cohorts are delivered live online, with particular emphasis on students at British schools and international schools.
Frequently asked questions about A-Level Mathematics
What is A-Level Mathematics tutoring?
A-Level Mathematics tutoring at TestPrep Europe covers Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics over the two-year AS + A2 cycle. Structure may vary by board and syllabus code — we work to whichever specification (Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International, AQA, OCR / OCR MEI) the student is enrolled in.
- Pure Maths drilled as the algebraic and calculus backbone
- Mechanics and Statistics applied papers practised separately
- Past papers from the student's actual board
- AS-level standalone or full A-Level both supported
Common A-Level Mathematics mistakes
HataForgetting the constant of integration on indefinite integrals.
Düzeltme+C is part of the answer. Examiners deduct for its absence.
HataConfusing radians and degrees on calculator-based trig questions.
DüzeltmeSet the calculator to radians on every Pure paper unless the question explicitly uses degrees.
HataMixing dy/dx, d²y/dx² and dx/dt notations on parametric or implicit problems.
DüzeltmeWrite the variable of differentiation explicitly: dy/dt vs dy/dx. Don't shorten until the line is unambiguous.
HataOn hypothesis testing, stating the conclusion without referring to H₀ and the significance level.
DüzeltmeConclusion template: 'Because p (…) is less / greater than α = …, we reject / fail to reject H₀. There is / is not sufficient evidence that …'.
HataSkipping diagrams on Mechanics questions.
DüzeltmeEvery Mechanics question gets a labelled diagram before any equation. Most boards award marks for the diagram itself.

How TestPrep Europe teaches A-Level Mathematics
Pure as the load-bearing column
Pure Maths is the structural core of every applied paper. We protect Pure practice every week so Mechanics and Stats marks don't collapse from algebra mistakes.
Board-specific past papers
Edexcel, Cambridge International, AQA, OCR and OCR MEI each have distinct command words and paper structures. We tutor to the actual specification the student will sit.
Method-mark discipline
A-Level markschemes are generous on method marks but strict on showing every step. The habit is built into every session.
Sıkça sorulan sorular
Which A-Level Mathematics specification do you tutor?
We tutor to whichever specification the student is enrolled in — Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International, AQA, OCR (A) or OCR MEI. Always tell us the board and syllabus code.
Is AS-only enough for university applications?
AS-only is rarely accepted by competitive UK universities. Full A-Level (AS + A2) is the standard requirement. AS-only certification is more useful as evidence of progression than as a final qualification.
Should I take Further Mathematics?
Further Mathematics is required or strongly preferred for the most competitive maths, physics and engineering applications (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, ETH). For other STEM applications it is a strong but not always required signal.
How much past-paper practice is enough?
Typically 8–12 full timed papers across the year, plus topic-specific past-paper packs after each unit. The exact number depends on the diagnostic baseline.
