About the subject
A-Level Business: what it covers and who it suits
A-Level Business tutoring at TestPrep Europe follows the specification your school enters you for. On the AQA specification (7132) shown on this page, each of the three papers lasts 2 hours, carries 100 marks and a third of the A-Level, and can examine any part of the content: Paper 1 combines multiple choice, short-answer questions and two essays, Paper 2 has three data-response questions, and Paper 3 is one case study. We teach the four functional areas, strategy and decision-making, with explicit attention to applied analysis and evaluation; for Edexcel, OCR or Cambridge International we plan around that board's own papers.
- AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge International specifications mapped paper by paper
- Case-study technique drilled with past-paper material
- Quantitative business (ratios, investment appraisal, breakeven) drilled separately

A-Level Business studies how companies are founded, managed and grown. It provides both theoretical and practical foundations for entrepreneurship, marketing, finance and human-resources careers.
A-Level Business covers the principles of business management and strategic decision-making. The AQA specification (7132) moves from What is business? and Managers, leadership and decision making through the four functional areas — Marketing management, Operational management, Financial management and Human resource management — to four strategy sections, from Analysing the strategic position of a business to Managing strategic change. It spans everything from small-business start-up to multinational strategy and develops both theoretical knowledge and applied analysis. Our tutoring combines case-study analysis, financial-calculation practice and structured essay writing.
One-to-one A-Level Business tutoring
Our one-to-one A-Level tutoring is built around your current grade, your target grade and the exam board you are sitting. Each lesson works on your weak topics, drills AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE past-paper questions and walks through mark schemes, so you know exactly how marks are awarded.

How lessons work
Application as default
Every theory is taught with applied case-study examples, because applying knowledge to the business in front of you is assessed in its own right (AO2).
Evaluation as judgement
Top-band evaluation weighs magnitude and context. We drill it as a structural skill, not as 'mention both sides'.
Quantitative business as a separate skill
Investment appraisal, ratios and break-even are taught with explicit numerical workflows so students don't throw away method marks.
Advice
A-Level Business: common mistakes and study tips
MistakeTheory recited without case-study application.
FixTop bands always apply theory to the case-study business. Generic answers under-score.
MistakeEvaluation treated as 'on the other hand'.
FixTop-band evaluation weighs significance — magnitude, time, context, alternatives — not just opposing arguments.
MistakeQuantitative business answers without working.
FixShow formula, substitution and units. Method marks survive small slips.
MistakeStrategy answers without context.
FixStrategy choices depend on the business's size, sector, market and resources. Strategy in a vacuum caps.
MistakeConclusions that summarise.
FixTop bands close with a justified judgement on the question, not a recap.
Study tips
- On case-study questions, link theory to the specific business scenario provided.
- Practise financial calculations (profit margins, break-even, return on capital employed, payback, average rate of return, net present value) until they are quick and accurate.
- Bring contemporary business examples into your essays.
- On AQA 7132 all three papers can examine any part of the specification, so practise connecting topics — for example, how a pricing decision affects cash flow and capacity.
